Sacred Pilgrimage and Educational Tours in Avalon, and Beyond...
For many centuries, Glastonbury and the surrounding landscape has been a place of pilgrimage. Beyond any beliefs or theories, there is 'something' indefinable that draws pilgrims to this place, something special and sacred. As a teacher, I work with many techniques for healing and harmonising the mind, body and spirit. But the greatest teacher is Nature itself. Our planet, Earth or Gaia, is not uniform; what a pilgrim may experience in the Himalayas is quite different from Jerusalem...or Glastonbury. And the legends and teaching stories of our ancestors, especially those relating to the sacred landscape in its wonderful diversity, embody the wisdom that comes from being attentive to Gaia.
In my tours and teaching about Glastonbury, which Dion Fortune called 'Avalon of the Heart', our experience of Glastonbury and its surroundings is enriched through working with with ancient myths and teachings that open the way from Glastonbury to Avalon. Tours and Workshops include:
Background
Many tribes and nations have myths that relate specially to the sacred landscape. These are as diverse as the 'dreamtime' of the aboriginal peoples of Australia, the foundation story of Rome, and the many geographical legends of ancient Ireland. The human relationship with Nature and the traditions that embody it are a limitless well of inspiration. As we connect with the land, we also encounter tribal and ancestral spirits.
In Glastonbury, the legends of the Grail and the Arthurian Romances are particularly significant, for Glastonbury is also the Isle of Avalon, Isle of Apples, the Western Land and resting place of King Arthur. Sadly, land-based traditions have sometimes been abused by some fascist and racist demagogues. Yet in teaching the mysteries of 'the Matter of Britain', we must be clear. This has nothing to do with "racial purity", which is a false and dangerous concept, but everything to do with how successive generations adapt to their environment, visible and invisible. Britain has been enriched by numerous migrations throughout the millennia, and all peoples that have truly connected with the land and its guardian powers have changed and been changed by the landscape. Yet in modern centuries we have lost contact with our predescessors and the sacred landscape.
